The Vosges lakes
Around Gérardmer, three lakes mirror one another: Gérardmer, the largest, Longemer, more intimate, and Retournemer, almost hidden in the forest. You can rent a pedalo, walk the lakeside paths, picnic on a small beach. In winter, Gérardmer lake sometimes freezes into an improvised skating rink. A setting that calms first dates and quickly puts words at ease.
The Crest road and the Hohneck
Laid during the First World War, the Route des Crêtes winds for over 70 km along the top of the massif, offering sweeping views over Alsace, Lorraine and sometimes the Black Forest. It climbs to the Hohneck, 1,363 metres, and passes through the Schlucht pass. A road trip or hike for two in this setting changes everything: silences grow peaceful, a look is enough.
Grand Ballon and blueberry landscapes
A little further south, the Grand Ballon peaks at 1,424 metres, the highest point of the massif. High-altitude grasslands, herds of pied Vosges cows and carpets of blueberries in late summer invite you to wander. On Lyad, members from the Vosges share their favourite paths; it is up to you to find someone to lace up trainers and breathe pure air with.
